Qualifications

Teacher of the Deaf - Primary School, Islington

Daily Rate: £231.18 - £310.07 PAYE

Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term

Start Date: September 2025 - July 2026

Are you a qualified Teacher of the Deaf with a passion for inclusive education? A thriving and forward-thinking primary school in Islington is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Teacher of the Deaf to lead its specialist provision for children with Hearing Impairment (HI) and complex SEND needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a vital area of the school, driving high standards of teaching and learning for Deaf pupils while making a lasting impact on the wider school community.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Deaf Provision, working closely with the SENDCo, senior leadership, and external agencies.
  • Deliver tailored teaching and intervention to pupils with Hearing Impairment and additional SEND.
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) confidently and fluently to ensure full access to learning, communication, and social inclusion.
  • Provide training and guidance to mainstream staff in BSL, Deaf Awareness, and inclusive SEND strategies.
  • Monitor pupil progress, assess individual needs, and create personalised support plans.

  • We are looking for an exceptional Teacher of the Deaf who:
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and is a fully qualified Teacher of the Deaf.
  • Has proven experience supporting children with Hearing Impairment and a deep understanding of Deaf culture and identity.
  • Is confident and fluent in BSL.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and leadership skills, inspiring staff and advocating for Deaf pupils.
