About the role

Teacher of Special Needs - Reigate

Responsibilities
  • Support a class of 6-8 students with autism and complex learning needs, implementing sensory and communication techniques.
  • Work within a team including a senior teaching assistant and 2-3 additional LSAs.
  • Collaborate with therapists (speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and counsellors) as part of an integrated Trauma-Informed Approach.
  • Use specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS.
  • Deliver a holistic, cross-curricular, sensory-focused curriculum in a specialist primary school setting.
  • Utilise on-site therapies and facilities (therapy pool, sensory rooms) as part of EHCP-supported plans where relevant.
  • Support pupils with EHCP objectives and progression opportunities within the school’s career pathway for staff.
Qualifications
  • QTS is required for the role; the school would consider unqualified teachers if you have relevant experience to bring to the role.
  • Experience working with primary students with autism and complex needs is preferred.
About the School

The school provides a safe learning environment for primary aged children with severe and complex learning, social and communication difficulties, which may include physical disability. The team works closely with therapists to ensure the physical and emotional support of the children. The school has excellent facilities and on-site equipment including a therapy pool, sensory rooms and uses I-Gaze technology, and there is excellent on-site training and support, helping with progression to become senior support assistants, teachers, therapy assistants etc.
