Teacher of Science & Health and Social Care
Location: Darwen, Lancashire
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS
Start Date: September 2025 or earlier by negotiation

A secondary school in Darwen is seeking to appoint a versatile and enthusiastic Teacher of Science and Health & Social Care to join their committed and collaborative teaching team. This dual-role post offers the opportunity to engage students in both academic and vocational learning and to help them explore pathways into healthcare, social services, and scientific careers.

The Role:
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching across Science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics) and Health & Social Care. You will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with a focus on engagement, progress, and preparing pupils for further education or career pathways.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in Science and Health & Social Care
  2. Assess and track student progress in line with school policies and national standards
  3. Contribute to the ongoing development of the curriculum in both subject areas
  4. Provide a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student confidence and independence
  5. Work collaboratively with colleagues to raise standards and drive achievement
  6. Participate in the wider life of the school and contribute to enrichment and extracurricular opportunities

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  1. Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  2. Have experience teaching Science and/or Health & Social Care in a secondary setting
  3. Be passionate about delivering a curriculum that connects with real-world applications
  4. Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and a proactive approach to learning
  5. Show strong communication and organisational skills, with a commitment to reflective practice
