About the Role:

Edgar Wood Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of Science to join our thriving and ambitious team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing school and play a key role in raising achievement within the Science department.

This post is suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs). We offer a highly supportive environment with a comprehensive CPD and training programme to ensure new teachers thrive in their first years of teaching.

Key Focus:

  • Support the Head of Science in driving continuous improvement in teaching, learning and outcomes.
  • Lead and support targeted interventions to maximise student progress.
  • Use data insightfully to inform planning, intervention, and teaching strategies.

Primary Purpose:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching that inspires, challenges and motivates students.
  • Promote a “can-do” culture, encouraging high aspirations and a belief in success.
  • Play an active role in the ongoing development of the school and wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach engaging, inclusive lessons in line with the school’s curriculum and assessment expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Science and department colleagues to improve curriculum delivery and outcomes.
  • Develop and contribute to effective formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Support the standardisation and moderation of assessments within the department.
  • Keep up to date with national developments in Science education and share best practice.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment with high expectations for all students.
  • Work with the Pastoral Team to support student wellbeing and remove barriers to learning.
  • Monitor, track and be accountable for student progress and attainment.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback in line with school policy.
  • Report on student progress to parents and carers through written reports and consultation evenings.
  • Support wider school duties, including enrichment activities, supervision, and pastoral responsibilities.
