Walthamstow Academy opened its impressive new building in 2006 and since then we have achieved excellent results both at GCSE and at A Level. In 2023, Walthamstow Academy students achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.47. At A-Level, our students achieve excellently with many of them progressing to Russell Group institutions. Because we are so successful, the school is now full and oversubscribed on first choices. We believe in the best in everyone and focus on high expectations, identifying barriers to success and providing support to ensure student achievement. We celebrate our multicultural community, with 90% of students from minority ethnic backgrounds, including African, Caribbean, Eastern European, Turkish, and Pakistani communities. The community faces social and economic disadvantages, with 35% of students eligible for Pupil Premium, and nearly 60% speaking a language other than English, many with low literacy levels on entry. Our staff work hard to add value to students’ performance, and standards across the Academy are above national averages in most subjects. Walthamstow Academy has received the CPLD Gold Award for professional development, reflecting our investment in staff.
