Teacher of Psychology (maternity cover)

Salary: up to £39,340 per annum, depending on experience (pay award pending)

Hours: 35 per week

Weeks Per Year: Full Year

Contract Type: Fixed Term- until June 2026

Site: Nelson and Colne College

The Exciting Role

Due to maternity cover, we are recruiting for a teacher of A Level Psychology to join the Humanities team on a full-time fixed term basis starting in August 2025. The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching A Level Psychology. The successful candidate will be primarily based at our Nelson site but may be required to travel across sites. This post could suit an experienced practitioner looking for their next challenge or a newly qualified teacher looking to make their mark within an Outstanding organisation.

If you are applying as a trainee teacher, the College's Trainee Teacher programme will include funding for your teaching qualification, as well as mentoring support and coaching from our experienced team. In addition, the DfE Taking Teaching Further funding also offers eligible recruits a £6,000 incentive payment.

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Teach Psychology at A Level delivering effective learning for students
  2. Be up to date, plan and prepare high-quality teaching as required by your Line Manager to the appropriate number of hours (810 hrs per annum)
  3. Develop and share resources for the course/subject including maintaining effective links across College for resources
  4. Act as a personal tutor for a group across their programme as a whole
  5. Deliver enrichment and enhancement activities
  6. Maintain comprehensive, up to date, student/course/subject records and provide information, as requested

What We Are Looking For:

  1. A degree in a relevant subject area or appropriate professional qualification
  2. A recognised teaching qualification or a willingness to achieve this within three years of appointment
  3. A higher degree or advanced qualification (desirable)
  4. Successful teaching experience in a relevant subject area
  5. Knowledge of and proven ability to deliver the curriculum successfully
  6. Demonstrate a student-centred approach to teaching and learning
