Job description

We are looking for a well-organised, dynamic and committed teacher to join our thriving Music Department, which plays a central role in the creative and cultural life of the School. The specialist teacher will also take on the role of KS3 Curriculum Co-ordinator. The successful candidate will be dedicated to nurturing a love of music in pupils from Years 7 to 9 and will contribute to the ongoing development of our Key Stage 3 curriculum.

Teaching staff at Harrodian should expect to lead a form, run lunch-time/after-school clubs and contribute to shaping the extra-curricular life of the School.We are continually developing our range of teaching resources within the department,and we endeavour to provide a range of exciting opportunities for pupils to develop their appreciation of music. The department seeks to promote music outside the classroom, and the post-holder will be encouraged to organise trips, visits and musical productions.Involvement with these latter responsibilities will particularlysuit a teacher with strong organisational and communication skills.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for music education
  • The ability to deliver engaging, high-quality lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and ideally KS5)
  • A commitment to curriculum leadership and development at KS3
  • Good piano/keyboard skills and confident vocal ability
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Anability to lead musical performances, ensembles, events and activities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good working knowledge of music technology and digital resources in music education (GarageBand,Logic, etc.)
  • Proficiency in working with different software applications, including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and productive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
  • A good sense of humour
  • A desire to work in a vibrant independent school

Desirable:

  • Evidence of further relevant professional development
  • Skills in arranging music or leading instrumental ensembles

Departmental Structure

This post reports to the Director of Music.

Accommodation and Equipment

There are four full-time music teachers at Harrodian, as well as a team of 17 visiting music staff teaching a variety of instruments. The Music Department is housed in its own building and incorporates three teaching classrooms, seven practice rooms and an auditorium space for concerts and recitals. There are 12 iMacs in the department, each running Logic Pro X, GarageBand and Sibelius software.

Founded in 1993, Harrodian is a co-educational school set on 25 acres of grounds with excellent facilities. Working days and hours

This is a full-time, permanent position.Full-time working days and hours at Harrodian are Mondays from 8.00am to 5.00pm and Tuesdays to Fridays from 8.15am to 5.00pm.Five (full) staff training days are held over the year at the start of the Autumn, October half, and Spring terms.Term dates are published on the School's website.

The agreed salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.
