Job description

  1. Curriculum Delivery

    • Teach music across KS3 KS4 (ages ), and potentially KS5 (A-level, ages ).

    • Deliver lessons on music theory, performance, composition, and appreciation.

    • Prepare students for GCSE and A-level Music exams (if applicable).

  2. Practical and Extra-Curricular Activities

    • Lead school ensembles (choir, orchestra, bands).

    • Organise and direct concerts, productions, or musicals.

    • Offer instrumental tuition (or coordinate with peripatetic teachers).

  3. Assessment and Progress Monitoring

    • Mark and assess students work in line with national standards.

    • Provide feedback and track progress.

  4. Pastoral and Professional Duties

    • Act as a form tutor (in many cases).

    • Participate in parent evenings, school meetings, and CPD (continuing professional development).

  5. Classroom Management and Inclusion

    • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom.

    • Differentiate instruction for a diverse student body.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • UK-recognised Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Degree in Music or a related field.

  • Experience or training in teaching music at secondary level.

  • Strong keyboard or instrumental skills are often highly desirable.
