Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which is proud to be rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.
We are seeking a teacher to join our highly successful Mathematics department from January 2027. We warmly welcome applications from both newly qualified and experienced teachers, including those with secondary and/or sixth form experience, who bring an enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning. The successful candidate will be teaching across GCSE Maths and A-Level Maths.
We take great pride in supporting our staff and work closely with each individual to provide a professional environment that promotes both personal well-being and career development. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team that genuinely invests in its staff.
The successful candidate will hold a degree in Mathematics or a related subject and demonstrate a passion for teaching alongside a strong commitment to supporting student progress.
With approximately 1,600 students studying A Level Mathematics, the Mathematics department is the largest in the College. The team consists of 27 dedicated teachers who work within a highly collaborative environment, drawing on a wide range of specialist expertise. The department is well organised and benefits from extensive shared resources. New members of staff are paired with an experienced colleague and are fully supported in all aspects of college life during their induction.
We follow the OCR (MEI) specification for A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, Edexcel for A Level Statistics, and AQA for GCSE Maths resit. Each course is overseen by a Head of Subject, and colleagues with additional responsibilities support students through curriculum-specific enrichment in Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth Mathematics Extension.
We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
