Teacher of History

24.85 hours per week (0.71 FTE)

Maternity Cover from 09 December 2025 to 08 December 2026

Stromness Academy is looking for a pro-active and motivated History teacher committed to providing the best possible learner experiences for all our pupils.

Applicants must be able to teach History at all levels from BGE to Advanced Higher, BGE Modern Studies and statutory Religious and Moral Education up to S4.

You will be a skilled and enthusiastic educator, fully committed to the learning and teaching approaches of Curriculum for Excellence and to inspiring and motivating pupils. Commitment to collegiate working, self-evaluation and maximising opportunities for all pupils is essential.

Stromness Academy is a six-year secondary school on a well-appointed campus in Orkney, which is frequently voted the best place in the UK to bring up children. Our catchment area covers the town of Stromness and the West Mainland, a dispersed population with over three quarters of our pupils being bussed into school. The small size of our school (approximately 350 on roll), and our classes, means we know our pupils well and are able to be flexible to meet their needs. Salary will be based on the Main Grade scale of the SNCT Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance. We offer a generous relocation package.

You must be registered, or in the process of registering, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
