Fixed Term Contract – 1 year maternity cover

The Governors wish to appoint an excellent Teacher of H&S Care, Child Development and Sociology for this 1 year fixed term post. This post is full-time and should appeal to both recently qualified teachers or to more experienced candidates, looking to develop further in an outstanding school. Applicants do not necessarily need to have a qualification in H&S Care, Child Development and Sociology and related disciplines will be considered.
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone wishing to join an outstanding department and a highly successful school. St Mary’s is a great place to work and provides excellent job satisfaction, as it is a very supportive environment. We provide excellent CPD for ECTs and recently qualified teachers, as well as on-going training for more experienced teachers. There are opportunities for teachers at all levels to help develop teaching and learning across the school, working collaboratively with teachers from other departments, whether as coaches or researchers. The working environment is, therefore, a very stimulating one for all staff and is an added attraction of this post.
St Mary’s is a very popular school, rated Outstanding by the Diocese and Ofsted. We enjoy outstanding facilities in a building, which opened in 2011. We joined the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust in June 2020. We are also very popular with parents and are one of the most over-subscribed schools in the North-East. The roll has grown from around 1100 five years ago to over 1450 by September 2024, with 5 main school year groups of around 235-240 and a Sixth Form of approximately 270 students. We expect the Sixth Form to continue to grow in the next couple of years, as strongly academic year groups continue to move into the Sixth Form.
