Job description

Teaching careers in HMC independent schools

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Teacher of Geography to join this high-performing school. We are seeking an enthusiastic graduate to teach Geography in our well-equipped department. Applications are welcome from both experienced teachers and those interested in undertaking a PGCE or who will be an ECT.

Brentwood Senior School is an academically selective, HMC co-educational independent school with small class sizes and a supportive, ambitious staff team. It is part of Brentwood School, a 3-18 HMC school with 1900 pupils, located just 35 minutes from London Liverpool Street.

The successful candidate will be able to teach Geography at KS3, IGCSE, and A Level, and will join a thriving Geography Department. They will also be expected to support pupils outside the classroom and participate in the wider life of the school through co-curricular activities.

The School and Senior Leadership Team strongly support Geography and recognize its vital role in the intellectual life of the school community.

We embody our values of virtue, learning, and manners, continuing a tradition since 1557. Our modern, inclusive community is shaped by our Christian Foundation. At Brentwood, we focus on understanding what makes each child intelligent, fostering confidence, respect, and a sense of community among pupils.

We aim to develop problem-solving skills, perseverance, and a growth mindset in partnership with parents. We encourage questioning and self-directed learning, and our pupils often go on to develop leadership skills and achieve beyond expectations, always remembering what Brentwood has taught them.

That’s who we are. We are Brentwood.

We are a highly supportive school that values a motivated and curious staff. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds to reflect our student body. Our staff benefit from bespoke professional development, including in-house research programs, external accreditation support, and participation in national and international organizations. Benefits include free gym membership, lunch, tickets to performances, and more. Brentwood School offers a pay scale above the London Fringe Teacher Pay Scale and subsidized accommodation if needed. Teachers can choose between the Teachers’ Pension Scheme or the school’s own scheme, with a 14% higher salary.

Applicants without a TES account can download an application form from our website or email: recruitment@brentwood.essex.sch.uk. All vacancies are posted on the School’s website. The School reserves the right to amend or close vacancies at any time.

Brentwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
