JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary

REPORTS TO: Principal

Professional Duties of a Teacher
Regulations

Under the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5, the duties include:

  1. Exercise of general professional duties: Carrying out professional duties as circumstances require, under the direction of the principal or the employing authority.
  2. Exercise of particular duties: Performing specific duties as directed by the principal or the employing authority.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Planning: Preparing courses and lessons, teaching students, and assessing their development.
  2. General: Promoting pupils' progress and well-being, providing guidance, and communicating with parents and external bodies.
  3. Assessment/Reporting: Contributing to assessments and reports on pupils.
  4. Staff Development: Participating in staff development and reviewing teaching methods.
  5. Discipline and Safety: Maintaining order and safeguarding health and safety.
  6. Public Examinations: Preparing pupils for exams and participating in assessments and supervision.
  7. Management Activities: Contributing to staff recruitment, development, and curriculum management.
  8. Work Schedule: Availability for 195 days/year, with specific hours and duties as specified.
  9. Staff Cover: Supervising pupils during staff absences, subject to conditions.
