Job description

TERM TIME ONLY: WORKING 32 WEEKS PER YEAR / 20 WEEKS HOLIDAY

IDEALLY LOOKING FOR: September 2024 Start

Our client, based in Gerrards Cross, has a fantastic and exciting opportunity for a dynamic and inspirational Teacher of Entrepreneurship, Technology, Engineering & Computing (eTEC) to join their team from, ideally, September 2024 – this would be working at a very prestigious school.

This full-time position would suit someone who has a relevant degree and ‘Qualified Teacher’ status. You must be an ambitious and energetic ‘subject’ specialist who has drive and commitment to build on the success they already have and to promote innovation through STEM subjects.

The eTEC teacher will focus on more modern manufacturing processes using CAD/CAM and on programmable electronics; promote the practical, investigative and creative skills required to understand and contribute to our technological world and encourage problem solving, decision making and independence through practical project work and design.

This position requires experience of upper KS2/KS3 as well as possessing the following:

  • Outstanding subject knowledge, keeping abreast of latest developments in Engineering, Design, Technology, Computer Science and Coding/Programming
  • Demonstrable success in the teaching of coding, e.g. Raspberry Pi, and running a First Lego League programme
  • The vision and ability to promote these subjects to pupils and parents alike
  • A proven track record of success that would add to the school academic culture
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, resilience and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team and be equally at home teaching those who find the subject hard and those who work at a level above their age group
  • The ability to also coach sport is also desirable and the successful candidate must show a desire to play a full and active role.

Duties of the Role:

TEACHING:

  • Planning/preparing courses and lessons
  • Teaching pupils, according to their educational needs, including setting/marking of work, assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

  • Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and any class or group that are assigned
  • Providing guidance/advice to pupils on educational/social matters, making relevant reports/records
  • Communicating/consulting with parents and pupils
  • Co-operating with persons/bodies outside of the school
  • Participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above

ASSESSMENTS & REPORTS:

  • Providing/contributing to oral/written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils.

APPRAISAL:

  • Participating in arrangements for the appraisal of pupil performance and that of other teachers.

REVIEW: FURTHER TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT:

  • Reviewing from time to time your methods of teaching and programmes of work.
  • Participating in arrangements for your further training and professional development as a teacher.

EDUCATIONAL METHODS:

  • Advising and co-operating with the Head-Master and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.

DISCIPLINE, HEALTH & SAFETY:

  • Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.

STAFF MEETINGS:

  • Participating in meetings at the school relating to the curriculum for the school or the administration/organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements.

COVER SUPERVISING:

  • As far as practicable, teaching pupils whose teacher is not available to teach them.

PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS:

  • Participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for the public exams and in assessing pupils for the purposes of such exams, recording and reporting, such assessments and participating in arrangements for pupils’ presentation for and supervision during such exams.

MANAGEMENT:

  • Contributing to the selection of appointment and professional development of other teachers and non-teaching staff, including the induction and assessment of new and probationary teachers.
  • Co-ordinating/managing the work of other teachers.
  • Taking part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the school.

ADMINISTRATION:

  • Participating in administrative and organisational tasks related to such duties as are above, including the management/supervision of persons providing support in the school, and the ordering and allocation of equipment and material.
  • Attending assemblies, registering for attendance of pupils and supervising whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after school sessions.

Special Requirements:

  • Qualified to degree level in Engineering, Design, Computer Science or any other relevant subject
  • ‘Qualified Teacher’ status
  • Enthusiasm for Design & Engineering and a desire to promote the opportunities these subjects provide for higher level study
  • An interest in the more cutting-edge aspects of the subject, including CAD/CAM, robotics and programming
  • A professional approach and outlook at all times with excellent interpersonal skills to develop good relationships with colleagues, parents and the wider school community
  • Strong communication skills as well as being consistent and straightforward in dealing with others
  • Good humoured, enthusiastic, positive, warm and with a caring approach and outlook
  • Good working knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education (Part 1) and Working Together to Safeguard Children in Education, as well as personal and sincere commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils
  • Smart, professional appearance

Also essential to the role:

  • High level of subject knowledge
  • Knowledge of current curriculum applicable to the subjects
  • Theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children – classroom organisation, learning strategies and styles, with the ability to effectively monitor, assess, record and report pupil progress
  • Knowledge of Equality legislation and the classroom implications
  • Experience in working with parents and sympathetic to their views related to their child’s development

Ability to:

  • Create a happy, challenging and effective learning environment
  • Establish a rapport with children, engaging them, keeping them focused and motivated with the ability to enthuse and inspire children in this exciting and fast-moving subject
  • Respond effectively to children, whilst adapting a teaching approach
  • Providing suitable progression in lessons
  • Demonstrating teaching and learning taking place in the classroom

Salary: £26,826K-£45,075K (D.O.E.) per annum

From:

A1 (unqualified) from £26,826 up to £28,396

thereafter salary increases with each level A2 / B1 / B2 / B3 / B4

Up to

B5 (5 years plus) from £42,134 up to £45,075

Accommodation:

  • Full time teachers (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm, plus Saturday mornings x 32 weeks per year) who do a weekly evening duty to 9.30pm are eligible for housing or a Housing Allowance (currently not taxed as a benefit in kind, but subject to HMRC rules) or a £6K taxable Living out Allowance if owning your own property.
  • If on site or school owned properties are available, then housing is provided F.O.C. with Council Tax paid.
  • If the school have to take out a rental for a teacher (within a 5-mile radius of the school) they will subsidise the rental up to £1K a month and will also subsidise Council Tax.

Access to Aviva Pension Trust is offered (APTIS)

  • Defined contribution scheme
  • Employer’s contribution rate 17.48% of pensionable salary
  • Government regulations mandate a minimum Employee’s contribution of 5%, although it is possible to elect more
  • Ill-Health Insurance Scheme, providing Group Life Assurance with a benefit based on 3 x salary and Group Income Protection to provide a beneficial benefit and rehabilitation support if employee is unable to work due to long term illness or injury
