Please note that this role is temporary for the Autumn Term, with the potential to extend to one year. You will be a well-qualified and inspiring teacher with outstanding subject knowledge. You will be able to teach English confidently from Year 7 through to GCSE. The ability to teach to A-Level would be an advantage. You should have experience of using a range of teaching and learning strategies and be able to offer enthusiasm for your subject and excellent pupil results at all levels. The ability to work across both the English and Media departments would be desirable, but this is not essential. You would be joining two experienced teams, who have an excellent track record of supporting pupils to achieve outstanding results. In 2024, 80% of grades were at 6 or above in English Language and Literature (iGCSE Edexcel) with pupils performing, on average, a grade higher than their baseline predictions. In Media GCSE (Eduqas), 92% of grades were a 6 or above and pupils performed, on average, 1.5 grades higher than their baseline predictions. Both Media (Eduqas) and English Literature (Edexcel) are popular A-level subjects. In 2024, 100% of grades were at B or above in English Literature and 67% of grades were at B or above in Media. We also deliver a popular Extended Certificate BTEC programme in Creative Digital Media Production. In 2024, over half of the cohort achieved a D
- and 100% achieved a Merit of higher.
The English department consists of 9 members of staff, who teach in a suite of rooms in our Performing Arts Centre. The school has a strong culture of collaboration and support with colleagues working closely to develop one another's subject knowledge and pedagogy. We are committed to offering theatre trips; author workshops; poetry recitations; and events for World Book Day for our pupils. The Media department consists of 4 members of staff, including a dedicated technician. The Department has excellent facilities that enable our pupils to excel. It also offers pupils a range of co-curricular activities. For example, MUN TV broadcasts daily news bulletins, as well as entertainment programmes throughout the Royal Russell MUN Conference in October half term. Our pupils are also responsible for the live production of Royal Russell Day and the marketing videos for the School, providing them with invaluable experience. We are a friendly, warm and nurturing school and we are committed to doing the very best for our pupils, setting them high expectations in a supportive environment while fostering independent learning and practical skills. You will become a central part of our diverse, enthusiastic and energetic family. The strength of community at Royal Russell is paramount to the success of every individual and we strongly believe that we learn and achieve together. Further information can be found on our website.
