Job description

Job Reference: JUL20254329

Location: Leyland, Lancashire

Job type: Fixed Term

Salary: £14,493 Per Annum

Closing date: Fri, Jul 18, 2025

TEACHER OF ENGLISH (0.3) - REF 2507141 Up to £14,493 p.a. (FTE up to £48,309 p.a.) 11.1 hours per week

Runshaw College is one of the most successful colleges in the country, renowned locally and nationally for our outstanding results, a friendly and supportive culture, and a focus on putting the student at the heart of all we do.

We value our staff and students highly, and invest heavily in their development, support and wellbeing. Situated in Leyland, Lancashire, the College is near the M6, M61 and M65 and within commuting distance of Manchester, Liverpool and the Lake District.

We are seeking an outstanding English teacher to join the School of English, Languages and Classics. The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant subject area and a proven track record of delivering Functional Skills English and/or GCSE English to a high standard. They will also be able to design and deliver creative and impactful lessons and take a student-centred approach to learning.

Our Functional Skills courses in English range from Entry Level to Level 2 and run across both the Adult and 16-19 Programmes. Classes are timetabled within the college day and in the evening and so it would be important for the successful candidate to have that flexibility in their availability. In addition to our face-to-face courses, we are also currently piloting an online version of the Level 2 course via the Learn Direct platform and so experience with online learning would be desirable.

Please note that teachers of Functional skills usually teach some 16-19 GCSE English Language re-sit provision as part of their allocated deployment. However, as there is more than one role available within the department, there is also scope for part time roles teaching just GCSE English or leading on Functional Skills.

Fixed term maternity cover until February 2026.

Closing date is 12 noon, Friday 18th July 2025.
