South Hampstead High School is renowned for our Design and Engineering facilities, as well as our academic and extra-curricular achievements. As a Teacher of DT, you will make a key contribution to the success of the department by delivering engaging DT lessons to highly motivated and talented pupils from Year 7 to 13, equipping them with skills, experience, and knowledge that empowers them to solve problems and design solutions.
There will also be further opportunities for you to offer your extensive skills and enthusiasm to other departments across the school.
About you
You will be a highly motivated and well-qualified individual, with appropriate practical and technical skills training, as well as Health & Safety DT certification (training can be organised for H&S certificates). This role would suit a qualified teacher with a proven track record; however, we also welcome applications from ECTs and well-qualified graduates looking to begin a career in teaching.
The Design & Engineering Department
The department is situated in a modern, purpose-built school, with a workstation for each teacher. The multi-use studio is fully computerised with widescreen PCs, an interactive whiteboard, and an A2 laser cutter. This room also houses three 3D printers as well as a small-scale manufacturing area.
The Textile studio, shared with the art department, contains a Digital Rowland Cutter, a sublimation printer, and a heat press. Finally, the DE workshop is used mainly for 3D practical assignments using wood, plastics, and limited metal work. It comprises a general work area with machinery and workbenches, a studio area for designing, and an additional laser cutter.
