Job description
Overview

Full time, permanent, non-residential position for October 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is to teach Computer Science and ICT throughout the school, including at GCSE and Level 3. The role may suit a qualified teacher or a graduate seeking Qualified Teacher Status in the future.

About More House School

Nationally celebrated, More House School provides an exceptional education for intelligent boys with Specific Learning Difficulties and developmental language weaknesses. The school has repeatedly been recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for over a decade and serves day and boarding pupils from Year 4 to Year 13. With around 500 pupils, it is recognised as the largest SEND-specialist provision in the United Kingdom and engages in outreach work. More than half of pupils have their places funded by local authorities.

About the Department

The Computer Science department is based at the centre of the campus, in dedicated computer suites and is resourced with Clevertouch interactive teaching screens. Computing covers Digital Literacy, Computer Science and Information Technology and is taught to all pupils from Years 4 to 8. Students begin Python in Year 8, with progression to GCSE. The department also teaches Physical Computing with BBC Micro:bits and Raspberry Pi. At Key Stages 3 and 4, the focus is on GCSE Computer Science and the Tech Award in Digital Information Technology, and the Sixth Form offers A-level Computer Science (with C# introduced at A-level). From September, Level 3 Information Technology (AAQ) is also offered as progression from Level 2 DIT.

Class sizes are small (up to 15) with extensive extracurricular opportunities. There are Junior and Senior Coding clubs and opportunities to enter coding and cybersecurity competitions. A strong pastoral provision accompanies every department to support pupils’ wellbeing and trust in staff.

About the Post

This exciting post is for an enthusiastic, talented teacher — either qualified or a graduate starting a teaching career — to develop expertise in computing and programming for pupils aged eight to eighteen, including GCSE and A Level. In addition to teaching duties, the post-holder will be a form tutor, liaising with staff and parents to support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and organisation. The role includes leading one after-school extracurricular activity per week (4.30pm–5.30pm in term-time) and participating in the supervision-duty programme. The post-holder will also write reports, maintain records, and attend parent consultation evenings. An induction programme is offered, with ongoing professional development through INSET days and training opportunities. Lunch is provided daily, and on-site parking is available.

The post is non-residential. More House School offers a teacher-training package for appropriate employees, including support to complete a PGCE with Buckingham University and progression to the Newly Qualified Teacher/Early Career Framework pathway.
