Job description

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, ambitious and passionate teacher to join our strong and high-performing Creative Arts Faculty. We are looking for someone who is an excellent teacher and who can promote their love of Art to our students. This is an exciting opportunity for an excellent classroom practitioner to join a fantastic team and school. We welcome applications from ECT teachers just starting out on their teaching career and can offer a very supportive approach to the ECT programme; we also welcome applications from more experienced teachers. A passion and enthusiasm for Art and the opportunities this can provide to students is key.

You will teach in designated art studios equipped with a wide range of teaching resources including a full-size printing press, potter's wheel and kiln. The art department is central to a vibrant and forward-looking Creative Arts faculty, and you will be joining a strong, friendly faculty of Music, Drama and Art specialists with a track record of success. We are looking for a candidate with the skills and experience to make a real difference and develop our students’ love of Art alongside our Head of Art. Art is an important subject within our curriculum throughout Key Stage 3 (years 7 to 9) and is always a popular option subject at GCSE.

We are looking for:

  1. a teacher of Art to GCSE level with a track record of excellent student progress (either from an ITT programme or current/previous post).
  2. a strong presence and the ability to form excellent relationships with students, and all stakeholders.
  3. an innovative thinker who is able to find creative solutions and think on their feet.
  4. a driven and motivated professional who works hard and always strives to ensure students have the very best learning experience in Art.
  5. a teacher who is keen to develop and progress within the profession.
  6. a team player who will challenge all students and staff to be the best they can be.

Our teachers have excellent support from our extended Student Support Team, including the Welfare Team, Engagement Team and Learning Support team. We have a team of excellent and dedicated teachers, tutors and Middle Leaders across the school and our students are a delight to work with and achieve consistently excellent progress in their GCSEs (P8 + 0.88 in 2024).

We have a strong induction programme for all new staff, and support staff through their ECT programme, and support more experienced staff with undertaking NPQs. As part of a multi academy trust there are many opportunities for collaboration and sharing of good practice across the member schools.

We are an oversubscribed and friendly school of 900 students with big ambitions, and our staff and students are “proud to belong … proud to achieve”. Our school has undergone significant refurbishment over the last three years, including a recent state-of-the-art extension to our Drama studio and a new English block and library completed in August 2024.

Our school is situated in a fantastic location on the outskirts of Haslemere lying in Surrey, on the border with Hampshire and West Sussex. We have excellent road and rail links to neighbouring counties. We are situated just 3 minutes’ drive off the main A3 and we are also fortunate to have a train station in Haslemere on the mainline from Portsmouth to London Waterloo. This makes us very accessible from the South Coast or outer London areas by train or car.

Applicants are welcome to visit the school prior to an application. Please contact the Head’s PA, Mrs Geraldine Keeley, via email gkeeley@woolmerhill.surrey.sch.uk or via phone 01428 654055.

Benefits: Health insurance provided for all staff.

Closing date for applications: Tuesday 6th May at 8am.

We reserve the right to interview early if we receive suitable applications, so please apply early to avoid disappointment.

Woolmer Hill is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and equality and diversity in all aspects of employment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
