Walthamstow Academy opened its impressive new building in 2006 and since then we have achieved excellent results both at GCSE and at A Level. In 2023, Walthamstow Academy students achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.47. At A-Level, our students achieve excellently with many of them progressing to Russell Group institutions. Because we are so successful, the school is now full and oversubscribed on first choices. We believe in the best in everyone, with a focus on high expectations and support to ensure student success. The Academy celebrates its multicultural character, with 90% of students from minority ethnic groups, including African, Caribbean, Eastern European, Turkish, and Pakistani communities. There is social and economic disadvantage in the community, with 35% of students eligible for Pupil Premium, and almost 60% having a first language other than English. Many students enter with low attainment levels, and staff work hard to add value. Standards are above national averages in most subjects. Walthamstow Academy has earned the CPLD Gold Award for professional development, reflecting our investment in staff. We are part of United Learning, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, with all positions requiring an Enhanced DBS check.
