Job description

Start Date: January 2026

We are excited to announce that we are inviting applications to teach Art at King’s on a full-time basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an outstanding department of six teachers, and to shape learning within our warm and dynamic community.

The successful candidate will be required to teach across the full age range, delivering both GCSE and A level specifications, as well as teaching Art lessons to junior school pupils (age 7-11).

Qualified teachers, recent graduates, individuals considering a change in career and those returning from a career break are all strongly encouraged to apply.

Training for applicants who are brand new to teaching is available, and the school runs its own teacher training programme culminating in QTS.

Person Specification

The post will suit someone who has:

  • Excellent subject knowledge and a genuine interest in Art as an academic and creative discipline
  • An eagerness to inspire and support all pupils to flourish and reach their academic and creative potential
  • A desire to enrich the intellectual experience of pupils beyond the exam specifications in lessons and by supporting pupil involvement in challenges, competitions, and societies relating to Art
  • Strong pastoral instincts and a commitment to excellent pastoral care and safeguarding for all pupils
  • A desire to contribute to the school’s thriving co-curricular programme
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ability to work well with others
  • A personal commitment to ongoing professional development

The following would be advantageous:

  • Prior experience of teaching Art in a secondary school environment

It is expected that the successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working in a busy and stimulating environment, and will enjoy helping teaching staff with a wide variety of tasks. This is a job which requires someone capable of working proactively and without close supervision; somebody who, once acquainted with the department, will readily show initiative to see what is required and act accordingly.

King’s is one of the most successful schools in the world, with outstanding academic results, first-class pastoral care and a vibrant co-curriculum. Overlooking Wimbledon Common, the school is situated in one of the most attractive parts of south east England and benefits from exceptional grounds and facilities.
