We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated teacher to support teaching at Wallace Hall Academy. We offer high-quality professional learning for our staff.

We aim to appoint a highly skilled History Teacher, with knowledge of a second Social Subject area being advantageous.
Wallace Hall is a rural school in Thornhill, 13 miles north of Dumfries. The school caters to secondary students (roll just under 550), primary students (roll 185), and early learning pupils (roll 50). The school moved into a new building in 2010, equipped with excellent facilities. It operates as a 2-18 establishment under one Head Teacher.
Our motto is 'Together we grow, learn and achieve'. We value input from all stakeholders on our school’s values. Our vision is to create a safe, happy environment that challenges and encourages learners to reach their full potential, developing skills such as communication, compassion, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and citizenship.
We have strong partnerships with five cluster primaries, and about 25% of our pupils come from outside our catchment area. Our reputation for academic excellence and a flexible, inclusive curriculum are key strengths.
Our school is vibrant, committed to staff and pupil development, and fosters a positive learning community. We employ 65 teachers and 35 support staff, with strong links to partner agencies including the Parent Council, CAMPLE LINE, and the Queensberry Estate. This is a temporary post until December 2025.
Secondment opportunities may be available with prior line manager approval.
Applicants must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).
This position involves regulated work with vulnerable children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates will need to join the PVG Scheme or complete an update check before employment.
Applicants who have lived outside the UK in the last 5 years must provide police checks from the relevant authorities.
