Job description

Humanities Teacher | Walnut Tree School

Location: Wilden (Driving licence essential)
Contract: Full-Time | Term Time | Permanent
Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum (Depending on experience and qualifications)

We welcome applications from Qualified Teachers, Unqualified Teachers, and Class Instructors.

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Humanities Teacher to deliver engaging, high-impact lessons to students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs. This is a deeply rewarding opportunity to inspire young people who have struggled in mainstream settings, providing them with the personalised and accessible teaching they need to flourish.

The school:

Walnut Tree School is an independent co-educational day school for students aged 7-19 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The school delivers full time education and covers both academic and vocational subjects in line with national benchmarks. We deliver differentiated teaching and learning activities within small groups in a purpose-built school environment.

What We Are Looking For:
  • Qualifications: QTS, PGCE, or equivalent (desirable, but not essential).
  • Style: A motivating, adaptable approach to teaching.
  • Values: A deep commitment to inclusive, aspirational education.
  • Skills: Strong teamwork and the communication skills to build trust with students.
Why Work With Us?
  • Small Class Sizes: Enjoy the time and space to provide genuine feedback and tailor lessons to every child’s unique learning style.
  • Dedicated Support: Every lesson is supported by a Teaching Assistant, ensuring you can focus on teaching while we work together to prevent anyone from feeling overwhelmed.
  • Competitive Package: A salary up to £42k, a full induction, and a paid DBS.
  • Career Growth: Access to ongoing online and face-to-face training, plus clear progression opportunities within the Cambian Group.
  • Wellbeing First: Work within a supportive leadership culture and a friendly team that prioritises staff wellbeing.

We pride ourselves on being an Equal Opportunities Employer and we are committed to safeguarding and protecting the young people and service users within our care. All candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check and reference checks.

We will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the search and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
