Tax Disciplinary Board - Executive and Strategy Officer

The Taxation Disciplinary Board Limited (TDB) deals with complaints and disciplinary matters involving members and students of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT). The CIOT and ATT together have over 30,000 members and students and are the two leading UK professional bodies concerned solely with taxation.

The TDB is seeking to recruit an executive and strategy officer to support the Board, work alongside the team investigating complaints against members and students of CIOT and ATT, and oversee the operation of the Disciplinary Tribunal.

We are looking for an individual who is committed to maintaining and improving professional standards in the public interest. They are likely to have gained experience in a complaints management, tribunal or ombudsman setting or to have prior knowledge of professional regulation. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate:


  • Ability to work independently Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise workload and manage the work of junior staff
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to manage relationships with stakeholders and partner organisations with sensitivity and diplomacy
  • Critical thinking and outlook, including ability to identify issues requiring attention of organisation’s chair and board members and provide high quality, strategic advice
  • Ability to manage day to day finances (banking, invoicing paying, monitoring management accounts and spending) of a small autonomous operation
  • Ability to initiate and deliver policy, including drafting policies, and process change


Legal training and experience to allow individual to support professional disciplinary tribunal hearings. The role is 21 hours over 3 days per week (Monday -Friday).
