About the role

This vacancy is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. This initiative helps to increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people employed in the APS, to better reflect the diversity of the Australian community. To be eligible for this role candidates must provide confirmation of their Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

We are looking for experienced and motivated tax professionals to join various teams in our organisation. As an APS 6 Tax Officer you’ll build community confidence and trust through the administration of a world-class tax and superannuation system. You will lead a team or work with a diverse range of clients and have a client-centred approach to everything you do.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake a range of activities related to tax and superannuation
  • Interpret and analyse policies and procedures to identify and manage risks
  • Deliver quality outcomes, manage key relationships and resolve issues
  • Mentor others and develop staff capability and expertise
  • Engage with clients and manage interactions to achieve outcomes

Skills and experience

  • Experience in Australian tax and superannuation law and policies
  • Knowledge of business information and financial reporting systems
  • Expertise in accounting and auditing procedures
  • Time management skills to prioritise work and meet conflicting deadlines
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Relevant qualifications in Tax, Accounting or Law are desirable, but not essential.

Qualifications in fraud control or financial crime are highly regarded for some roles.

These roles will be offered in Adelaide, Albury, Box Hill (VIC), Brisbane CBD, Canberra, Dandenong, Geelong, Gosford, Hobart, Melbourne CBD, Moonee Ponds, Newcastle, Parramatta, Penrith, Perth, Sydney CBD, Townsville, Upper Mount Gravatt or Wollongong.

You must be an Australian citizen to work with the ATO.

The Indigenous affirmative measure is enabled under section 26 of the Australian Public Service Commissioner’s Directions 2016 and section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.
