Job description

At KPMG, our values define who we are and the way we do business. As a leading professional services firm, we know that our strength and capability come from our people - their different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. From our inclusive leadership strategy to our diversity and inclusion targets - we're making bold changes to who we are and what we do. Be part of it.

We are looking to recruit a US Private Client Tax Manager to be based in our London office. The role will involve working closely in a strong team on a range of clients and exciting projects, collaborating with different teams and locations across the firm, as well as helping build a new US tax practice in a Big 4 firm.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a US/UK tax manager, you will be required to manage all aspects of the tax compliance process and the wider client relationship management. You will lead and assist on advisory projects involving various tax and residency queries whilst developing and maintaining client relationships, under the support of a senior manager and/or director.

Apart from the technical role, you will be involved in the continuing building and development of a new US tax team within a Big 4 firm. You are expected to have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and constructively at various levels with clients, their other professional advisors, and colleagues.

Experience with:

  • Managing the complete compliance process while ensuring work meets expected standards, including minimizing risk and maintaining excellent client service.
  • Reviewing US tax returns, communicating points back to the team, and signing out completed tax returns as agreed with senior staff.
  • Line managing junior staff.
  • Delegating work to team members and training them in technical and soft skills.
  • Knowledge of other tax areas (such as estate/gift tax, IHT, and corporate tax) and knowing when to involve other experts within the company.
  • Client management and relationship building, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Leading billing processes and working towards prompt payments.

What we require from you:

Essential:

  • EA and ATT qualified.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, providing high-standard client service.
  • Desire to take ownership of your career and development.
  • Experience in a US/UK tax role; currently an experienced Assistant Manager or a new/experienced Manager.
  • Experience reviewing and signing out US tax returns and handling client tax requirements.
  • Experience managing junior staff.
  • Insightful understanding of client issues with the ability to deliver bespoke tax solutions.
