Job description

At Ingleton Partners, we want to hear from graduates who are interested in training towards professional tax status and building a great future as a tax specialist in UK/US private client tax.

To ensure you succeed well provide the training and support you need, interesting and complex clients to work on, combined with the responsibility and autonomy to allow you to grow in this unique area of international tax.

Youll work with experienced supportive professionals, receive a funded path to a professional qualification, and face the kind of challenges that turn smart graduates into confident tax professionals.

About Ingleton Partners Ltd

We are a boutique private client tax firm based in West London, specialising in US & UK tax. We work closely with high-net-worth individuals, many who are subject to both UK and US taxes, to help them understand and navigate the complexities of US & UK tax in the most efficient way. We prepare their UK and US tax returns; trust and corporate information returns; and other filings as well as providing advisory services. Our clients value our ability to provide tailored financial and professional services to solve problems and enable them to achieve their ambitions.

Our team of qualified practitioners (dual handlers) aims to deliver a more personal, attentive and proactive service whilst developing long lasting client relationships built on trust. We are looking for people who share our passion and enthusiasm to ensure that our clients flourish.

The firm today is owned by an Employer Ownership Trust for the benefit of its employees. We aim to operate a collegiate culture in our tight knit team where we support and care for each other as well as our clients. This extends to any new additions, who in addition to formal training detailed below, will have colleagues around them who will support them as they learn on the job. Since our founding we have always promoted from within, and the current management team are all original partners or have all been with the firm from the start of their careers.

We have numerous social events throughout the year to provide opportunities to better get to know your colleagues as well as an annual away conference.

In addition to a competitive salary, we operate an annual EOT bonus, exam success bonuses and a profit-based bonus scheme.

About You

Youll be a recent graduate who achieved a minimum 2.1 first degree. Youll have to quickly establish yourself as an integral part of the Ingleton Partners team, so youll thrive working in a collaborative environment and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

As an aspiring tax consultant, youll have strong organisation and numeracy skills, with a natural focus on accuracy and detail. Youll have the determination needed to train to be a professional and the intellectual interest in learning the rules for two tax jurisdictions.

The Role

The successful candidate will join a diverse team of driven and friendly professionals. You will work in a relaxed but professional environment. By working in a high-net-worth private client tax firm, you will get an opportunity to work with clients whose tax affairs straddle both the US and UK tax law.

From day one you will gain experience on the job and your primary role will entail communicating with clients and helping our team prepare US and UK income tax returns, UK and US tax calculations and US information returns. This will be the prime focus of your work.

In Addition, You Will Be Expected To

  • Prepare engagement letters and client acceptance documentation and walk clients through our take on procedures;
  • Take responsibility for all client matters as directed by the Managers and Directors;
  • Begin to develop professional relationships and build trust with clients;
  • Be aware of and adhere to budgets as well as deadlines and communicate issues;
  • Arrange and ensure client files are current and continually maintained;
  • Rise to the challenge of learning two systems of taxation and understanding how they interact;
  • Occasionally attend and take notes at meetings and virtual meetings with clients.

Professional Training

We firmly believe that having a competent and knowledgeable team is key to our success. We want to provide opportunities for development and career progression.

Within your first year we will expect you to start your study towards a professional qualification e.g. ATT (from the Association of Taxation technicians) and the firm will provide you with a training contract and pay for the necessary taught courses; course materials; revision courses; and, exam and membership fees. We will also provide paid study leave to put you in the best position to pass the first time.

Many of our team achieve their first professional qualification within two years of joining the firm. We would then encourage you to train for the US qualification to become an Enrolled Agent admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service in the USA. Again, we have a study program for this paid for by the firm with study leave.

We provide ongoing internal learning sessions and training throughout the year to keep developing skills and knowledge.
