Armstrong Watson is recruiting a Tax Compliance Assistant to join our Carlisle-based office, with potential to work from Penrith, West Cumbria or Leeds. The role focuses on entering tax information into our Tax software for review by a Tax Compliance Manager and assisting with complex tax areas.

The successful candidate will have ATT qualification (or QBE), a full UK driving licence, and experience in an Accounting/Tax Compliance setting. A collaborative, fast-paced team environment is offered.

The Role

We are now recruiting for a Tax Compliance Assistant to join our office in either Carlisle, Penrith, West Cumbria or Leeds, and be part of the wider Tax Service Line.

The main elements of this role will include:

• Being responsible for entering tax information into the relevant sections of our Tax software ready for review by a Tax Compliance Manager


• Assisting with complex areas within their portfolio, including Profit Sharing, Farmers Averaging Claims, CGT computations etc


• Sending reminders to clients for required / missing information


• Reporting any HMRC compliance enquiry notices to the Tax Compliance Manager


• Providing support and training on Tax data entry to Tax Compliance Trainees

The Candidate

In order to fulfil the responsibilities of the position, we would like candidates to be / have:

• ATT qualified (desirable) but "Qualified by Experience" candidates will also be considered for this position


• A full UK Driving Licence


• Experience of working in an Accounting /Tax Compliance capacity at an Accountancy Practice


• Comfortable working in a fast paced environment


• A dedicated team player and willing to assist colleagues within the team where possible


• Able to prioritise workloads under strict deadlines and work well under pressure


• Able to use initiatives and have great organisation/problem solving skills


• Keen to become part of a dynamic team
