Job description

Entity: Finance

Job Family Group: Tax Group

Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a tax professional with excellent UK tax expertise, sound and developing international tax knowledge, and proven hands-on advisory experience. The role is well suited to someone who can work with a high degree of independence, take ownership of complex tax matters, and grow further in a broad regional tax environment.

The UK, Europe and South Africa tax team is responsible for providing experienced tax advice and support across all businesses, taxes and countries within this geographical region. This team will act as the primary holder of relationships with fiscal authorities and business leaders, driving effective tax risk management across the region. This team will have primary accountability for handling non-routine or contentious tax audits and disputes within the region and in support of the accountabilities held by the Tax Operations and the centralized Planning and Transfer Pricing teams.

Within tax, this team will work closely with the centralised Planning and Transfer Pricing (TP) teams to provide local tax knowledge and insight to centrally led M&A/BD projects and TP-specific matters, and may also be called on to support the Policy, Operations and Reporting teams where local knowledge and oversight of tax matters in the region is needed to undertake advocacy, compliance and reporting activity.

Essential experience and qualifications:
  • Educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., Master of Economics/Taxation, Master of Law or similar).
  • ACA and/or CTA qualified, or equivalent qualification, with strong technical expertise in UK corporation tax/direct tax.
  • confirmed experience in tax planning and advisory in a global or multinational environment.
  • Strong eye for business
  • Ability to understand business operations and their tax impact, enabling business teams to make informed decisions that drive profitability and efficiency.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and partner management skills.
  • Adaptability and resilience, with a willingness to adopt and motivate change where appropriate.
  • Experience with technology-enabled tax transformation and data-driven decision-making.
Key Partners:

Outside of the wider tax function, other key collaborators for this role holder will include:

  • Fiscal authorities: with limited exceptions, the regional tax teams are typically the primary holders of relationships with the fiscal authorities.
  • Business leaders: other than for ST&S direct tax matters, the UK, Europe and SA team will maintain relationships with leaders of businesses operating in the region.
  • External tax advisors: when required.
  • Key Finance/FP&A/FBT interfaces, particularly where tax data is required.

Please note that roles based out of SJS or Sunbury will move to Timber Square, Southwark, from Q4 2027.
