Overview
Our client, an Oil and Gas Operator in Aberdeen, is seeking an experienced Tax Adviser to cover maternity leave. This is a 12 Month PAYE contract role with a hybrid working arrangement. Corporate Tax and Tax Accounting skills are essential for this position.
Purpose of Role
UK Tax Compliance and UK Tax Provisioning
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner, complying with regulatory requirements, legislation, and client procedures.
- Experienced Tax Practitioner working in Corporate tax and Tax accounting.
- UK Tax Compliance and UK Tax Provisioning, including preparation of Corporation Tax returns and computations for client UK companies (prior experience of ring fence rules preferred but not essential).
- Preparation of all necessary data, examination of technical issues, and computation of tax liability using specialist software.
- Filing Corporation Tax Returns with HMRC, addressing questions from HMRC, and ensuring that liability is agreed.
- Researching/legislative checking of selected tax technical matters relevant to tax return responsibilities.
- Preparing tax provisioning for inclusion in the statutory accounts of the Corporate UK legal entities in the UK.
- Preparing the UK group relief and UK corporate interest restriction position of the group; examining technical issues and analysing tax legislation to determine the appropriate presentation of specific transactions.
- Preparation of Petroleum Revenue Tax (PRT) returns for client PRT Fields and assistance with all associated PRT compliance (prior experience of PRT preferred but not essential).
- Preparation of Energy Profits Levy calculations for compliance and UK statutory reporting (prior experience of EPL preferred but not essential).
- Supporting across a wider tax function as required.
- Any other reasonable duties as instructed by the Manager, including assisting with Tax advisory and Tax compliance as required, and assisting with UK statutory tax provisions.
- Working with and supporting other members of the wider UK tax team.
Qualifications and Skills
- Professional Tax Qualification.
- Corporate accountancy background, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
- Upstream Corporation Tax and PRT experience (desired but not essential).
- Strong analytical ability; attention to detail and a desire for precision; highly numerate.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of UK Upstream tax software desirable, together with knowledge of SAP (preferable but not essential).
- Ability to learn and develop understanding of accounting systems in order to navigate them.
- Pro-active, driven, capable of taking ownership, and a supportive team player who can operate in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
