This specialized role in Indirect Taxes is responsible for managing and overseeing the indirect tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities for the company across multiple jurisdictions. As a key contributor to the tax department, the role ensures that the company remains compliant with indirect tax regulations while optimizing tax strategies to mitigate risk and capitalize on opportunities.
Indirect Compliance
Oversee and manage the indirect tax compliance process in multiple jurisdictions by preparing and reviewing indirect tax returns (e.g., sales tax, property tax, excise tax), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Review and manage tax payments, reconciliations, and compliance calendars to ensure all indirect tax obligations are met.
Review property tax assessments and prepare personal property tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Prepare and process customer account credit requests and review new customers for taxability.
Review business license renewal applications for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Work closely with business locations to address discrepancies
Review and manage the customer portal to ensure compliance with tax regulations by conducting thorough reviews of tax forms and exemption certificates uploads for vendors and suppliers daily
Execute the annual 1099 reporting process, including reviewing vendor data, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, reconciling discrepancies, and maintaining compliance with IRS regulations
Tax Advisory & Strategy
Provide in-depth tax advisory services related to indirect tax implications of business transactions, including cross-border activities, supply chain structuring, and tax optimization strategies.
Analyze and interpret tax legislation and rulings, identifying opportunities for tax savings and ensuring compliance with evolving laws and regulations.
Work with the Tax Manager/Director to develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize indirect tax liabilities.
Audits & Reconciliations
Lead the preparation of documentation and responses for indirect tax audits, notices, and inquiries, ensuring the company is well-prepared and compliant.
Conduct post-audit reviews and implement corrective actions to mitigate future risk.
Calculate monthly accruals for, and perform detailed reconciliations of indirect tax accounts, working with finance teams to resolve discrepancies.
Lead the monthly tax adjustment process by conducting thorough research into customer account requests, accurately processing tax credits, and ensuring the timely filing of amended returns.
Risk Management & Internal Controls
Develop and maintain strong internal controls related to indirect tax compliance, ensuring the company's risk exposure is minimized.
Provide training and guidance to internal teams on indirect tax issues, ensuring compliance across departments.
Stay current on indirect tax regulations and emerging trends, proactively addressing potential risks or changes that could impact the business.
Process Improvement & Automation
Identify and implement process improvements in the indirect tax reporting and compliance process, leveraging automation and technology solutions where possible.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, procurement, operations) to streamline tax processes and integrate them with overall business operations.
Facilitate and verify tax software updates with IT monthly
Cross-Functional Support
Work closely with other tax professionals, accountants, and business units to ensure all indirect tax requirements are understood and addressed.
Provide training and support to internal stakeholders regarding indirect tax compliance and reporting requirements.

Other related responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Participate in special projects as assigned, which may include opportunities to work on advanced analytics and additional accounting functions
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role will not have direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to coach, mentor, and provide guidance to junior team members
