About The Service

The Targeted Support, Early Help and Engagement Service is part of the wider Education Directorate in Cardiff Council. The service comprises of the Education Other than at School (EOTAS) service, the Education Welfare Service (EWS) and the Youth Service. It is a large service serving a wide range of provisions with direct links to Children's Services, Youth Justice, schools, Early Help and Housing amongst others. It works closely with other local authorities, private providers and the third sector.

The service targets support to vulnerable young people and families. As well as delivering high quality education and quality assuring commissioned provision, the service has a high emphasis on safeguarding and equality.

About the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for professional administrators with strong business support skills to support the work of the Education Welfare Service and the administration of panels dealing with the placement of panels. Posts will involve establishing and maintaining tracking systems for groups of learners and recording outcomes.

The successful post holders will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, be confident working within a multi-disciplinary team and display sensitivity and competence in the management of confidential personal information.

You will be dealing with daily queries by managing team mailboxes and will need to be extremely organised with good written and time management skills.

You will be required to communicate with schools, parents/carers, and other agencies to provide advice and resolve enquiries at the first point of contact wherever possible.

The position will be based in County Hall with some home working.

What We Are Looking For From You

You will have experience of providing excellent customer service, work well in a team and have a flexible approach as duties will vary.

You will have a positive attitude to new challenges with a willingness to adapt quickly to change and engage with new ideas and make them work.

You will have a passion for delivering the best outcomes for vulnerable people and the ability to organise your work effectively are more important than prior experience in a similar role. We would however like to see that you are highly organised, a good listener and communicator and that you have the ability to produce high quality written work. Experience of minute taking is desirable.

The successful candidate will also be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and be able to prioritise their work. You will have the ability to analyse data, have good numeracy skills and good attention to detail, and that you are able to use Microsoft programmes such as Excel, Sharepoint and Teams and have the ability to maintain electronic records, with good attention to detail. A working knowledge of SIMs, Capita ONE and SAP would be useful, but training will be provided.

You will have experience of managing sensitive data and other forms of information in accordance with data protection requirements/GDPR.

A good knowledge and understanding of safeguarding are desirable as the post requires resilience to be able to deal with complex and sensitive issues.

Additional information

Please note: This is a part-time role for 22.2 hours per week. The advertised salary is based on a full-time position and will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. The actual salary for this role will range from £15,109 to £16,361 per annum, depending on hours worked.

The post is temporary until 30th September 2025.

This post will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
