Job summary

The Tactical Bid function within the Public Sector Enablement team focuses on speculative bids for Public Sector customers, designed to win incremental business for the CDW Public Sector Sales segment, that we would otherwise not compete for.

These speculative Public Sector bids are tactical in nature and will typically fall into:

  • Win business with new customers.
  • High revenue/low margin opportunities.
  • Bids that are deemed as ‘Enabled’ bids by the main Bid Management Team.
  • Bids where Social Value only content needs to be written.

As a Tactical Bid Manager, you will be responsible for managing Public Sector opportunities that meet certain criteria (e.g. Total contract value, complexity).

You will own completion of the response. This will involve producing a plan and engaging with representatives from internal departments and external vendors to collate information if and where necessary.

You will also need to work closely with account managers to produce cost models and commercials.

In addition, when you are not managing your own workload, you will be expected to provide support on other opportunities.

What success will look like
  • Increased net sales revenue and GP through bids won.
  • A return on investment through GP (full value and contribution weighted) of bids won.
  • A win rate % at or above target set.
What you will do
Opportunity take-on
  • Assisting the Public Sector Strategy & Growth Manager to identify relevant opportunities.
  • Supporting the bid review to provide rationale for the pursuit decision.
  • Identifying virtual bid team, engaging resources with the right skill sets to form a response to the customer’s requirements.
  • Coordinating the customer’s clarifications process.
Bid planning and management
  • Agreeing any responsibilities and work assignments with the correct SMEs.
  • Producing and managing the bid plan, including resources, deliverables, timing, dependencies and risks.
  • Managing the identification of commercial and operational risks and issues and ensuring that these are assessed and appropriately controlled/mitigated.
  • Scheduling appropriate progress checks and reviews.
  • Independent and collaborative authorship of custom content, as well as appropriate use of library material.
  • Critically reviewing draft bid content.
  • Ensuring timely bid submission in compliant formats.
  • Initiating lessons learned process to act on bid outcomes and customer/internal/partner feedback.
  • Contributing new material to the boilerplate libraries and being proactive in boilerplate additions, corrections and updates.
What we expect of you
Qualifications

  • Good understanding of technology and IT services concepts.
  • Accountable for all aspects of their work.
  • Action oriented.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to use these to determine time required to complete bids and develop work plans for others.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Confident at interacting with and guiding subject matter experts.
  • Self‑motivated and driven by challenges.
