Location(s): Peterborough, UK (Other UK locations available)

The Division

The UK-based Integrated Components and Solutions team offers exciting engineering opportunities within Caterpillar, focusing on integrating electronic control systems across products. Utilizing the latest electronics and electrical technology, we enhance product performance and value.

Our engine systems control air and fuel with millisecond precision, optimize power delivery, manage aftertreatment systems for emissions, and maximize performance.

Our battery management systems oversee performance, safety, charging, and discharging, integrating with other systems like powertrain controllers and chargers.

Our machine systems control construction machinery operations, provide operator interfaces, and monitor and communicate operational data for automation, productivity, and serviceability.

Job Role and Responsibilities

You will develop electro-mechanical control systems using quantitative methods for Caterpillar’s internal and external customers. Responsibilities vary by role but may include:

  • Gathering customer requirements and developing technical specifications for electronic features.
  • Designing electrical system architectures to meet technical needs.
  • Defining control algorithms and developing software using model-based techniques.
  • Planning and conducting verification tests using simulation, SIL, HIL, and actual machinery.
  • Troubleshooting electronics/control issues during product build and testing.
  • Investigating performance issues, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions.
  • Participating in FMEA, safety, and compliance reviews.

Basic Qualifications

A strong technical background with a degree in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems, or automotive engineering is preferred, but relevant experience will also be considered.

Additional Experience (depending on the position):

  • Off-highway machinery, engine, EV control system development, or similar automotive, marine, or military vehicle systems.
