Matchtech is supporting the recruitment for a System Safety Assurance Engineer to work with a key client in TORONTO. This role requires the suitable candidate to relocate to Toronto for the position.
Responsibilities:
- Lead safety assurance for various projects, ensuring compliance with relevant international safety and technical standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, and CMREA.
- Report on progress, manage staff competence and development, and maintain an internal audit schedule to ensure projects follow governance.
- Coordinate safety studies throughout the project lifecycle to meet safety requirements.
- Manage, perform, and ensure activities related to safety assurance are implemented in projects.
- Manage Hazard Log, review RAM, V&V, T&C activities from a safety perspective.
- Create and approve Safety Reports and the Safety Case.
- Prepare technical reports for management, clients, and regulatory authorities.
- Lead safety engineering activities across a range of rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with standards.
- Facilitate HAZOP / HAZID workshops, including planning, running, and documentation.
- Manage risk assessments, including planning, conducting, and documenting risk workshops.
- Possess knowledge of Safety Methods such as Safety Plan, PHA, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, SRIL, HL, V&V Safety Reports, and Safety Case.
- Review engineering safety management documentation and project assurance deliverables.
- Promote a safety culture and serve as a safety role model on the project.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent training.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience.
- Relevant safety designations are an asset.
- Strong technical proficiency in safety aspects of large-scale, complex railway projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Good knowledge of modern railway project components and systems.
- Expertise in applying safety standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA, CMREA.
- Experience in creating Hazard Logs, FMECA, FTA, IHA, OSHA, etc.
- Knowledge of railway project design and construction management.
- Excellent communication skills for managing stakeholders internally and externally.
