THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a key role within the organization to ensure that we design and deliver products that meet international certification standards and can be safely used by our customers.

The role involves planning and managing safety-related activities within bids and projects to ensure that risks are minimized as much as reasonably practicable. It includes leading hazard analysis efforts and developing safety and environmental requirements for products throughout their lifecycle.

The engineer will provide guidance to design teams to implement safety requirements and design features, ensuring a strong safety assurance and argument.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and deliver all aspects of safety and environmental engineering (S&EM) design activities as part of an Integrated Project Team, following the organization's safety management system.
  • Conduct hazard analysis, risk evaluation, and specify safety & environmental requirements, including performance, engineering features, interfaces, and testing needs.
  • Advocate for safety & environmental measures across project teams to ensure compliance with derived S&EM requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to S&EM processes, procedures, and relevant standards/regulations.
  • Estimate and plan the cost of safety & environmental engineering activities within projects.
  • Prepare hazard analysis reports, safety cases, and develop safety arguments.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles and methodologies.
  • Ability to perform in-depth safety analysis, risk evaluation, and safety case development.
  • Experience with environmental impact analysis and risk assessments.
  • Systems engineering perspective across the full product lifecycle.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a safety engineering role within an engineering environment.
  • Proven leadership in safety engineering activities.
  • Familiarity with product safety standards, legislation, and best practices.
  • Experience working in airworthiness or related regulatory environments.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Science or Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Relevant safety certifications and training records.
  • Ideally, Chartered Engineer status or membership in a Professional Institution.
  • A postgraduate qualification in safety or environmental engineering is desirable.
