Infleqtion is a global quantum technology company solving the world's most challenging problems. The company harnesses quantum mechanics to build and integrate quantum computers, sensors, and networks. From fundamental physics to leading edge commercial products, Infleqtion enables "quantum everywhere" through our ecosystem of devices and platforms.
LOCATION
Infleqtion has offices in the USA, United Kingdom and Australia. This is a permanent, full-time position at our Kidlington, Oxford office. Our flexible working policy enables all full-time employees to work from home up to 2 days a week, if work permits.
POSITION SUMMARY
As part of our strategy for growth in the UK, we are expanding our Engineering Team and recruiting an Instrumentation Software Engineer. In this role you will develop software and firmware interfaces to control and monitor optical and atomic physics systems for the development of next generation atomic clocks and PNT systems. These systems offer orders of magnitude improvements in sensing and accuracy compared to current technologies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Responsibilities
- Integrate electronics devices, instruments, third-party devices, and subsystems into larger complex systems comprising RF, analogue, digital, optical, and mechanical elements.
- Translate system-level requirements into practical integration architectures, interfaces, cabling, power, communications, and control schemes.
- Develop system interconnects including cable assemblies, harnesses, RF connections, grounding, shielding, power distribution, and signal routing.
- Perform system bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, fault isolation, and performance optimisation.
- Identify and resolve integration issues including grounding, EMI/EMC, signal integrity, timing, communications, power distribution, and environmental effects.
- Develop and maintain system diagrams, interface control documentation, wiring diagrams, integration procedures, and configuration records.
- Define and execute integration, verification, and validation test plans at subsystem and system level.
- Use laboratory test and measurement equipment to diagnose system-level performance and integration problems.
- Support installation, deployment, commissioning, and maintenance of systems in laboratory and operational environments.
- Work closely with electronics, software, FPGA, mechanical, optical, physics, and systems engineering teams to ensure successful end-to-end integration.
- Support supplier selection and integration of third-party equipment and externally developed subsystems.
- Contribute to system risk management, failure analysis, reliability improvement, and continuous improvement activities.
Personal and Team Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure deadlines are met
- Work within multi-disciplinary teams including physicists, engineers, and technicians to develop solutions
- Adapt to changing circumstances and manage ambiguity effectively
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or substantive equivalent experience in electrical engineering, systems engineering, electronic engineering, physics, mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Several years of relevant and progressive experience integrating complex multidisciplinary hardware systems.
- Strong practical understanding of analogue, digital, RF, power, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity principles.
- Experience integrating PCBs, embedded systems, instruments, sensors, actuators, and third-party equipment into larger systems.
- Experience with system bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault isolation.
- Experience developing and interpreting system block diagrams, wiring diagrams, interface specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience with electrical interfaces and communications protocols such as Ethernet, serial, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, or similar.
- Experience designing or specifying cabling, connectors, harnesses, grounding, shielding, and power distribution.
- Experience with testing, verification, and validation of complex systems and subsystems.
- Experience using test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, network analysers, signal generators, power meters, and digital multimeters.
- Ability to diagnose issues across multiple engineering disciplines rather than within a single subsystem.
- Ability to work effectively within highly collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
- Experience integrating RF systems including amplifiers, mixers, oscillators, filters, attenuators, and frequency conversion equipment.
- Experience integrating optical or electro-optical systems including lasers, photodetectors, modulators, and optical control hardware.
- Experience with precision analogue electronics, low-noise systems, and high-resolution data acquisition.
- Experience with FPGA-based and embedded control systems.
- Experience integrating laboratory automation and instrumentation using software interfaces such as SCPI, seria
