Job summary

Infleqtion UK is seeking an Embedded DevOps engineer to accelerate development velocity and reliability for quantum research, sensor development, and productionisation of advanced systems.

The role combines software, firmware and gateware work, with on-site hardware maintenance, lab networking, server administration, and collaboration across software and hardware teams. Hybrid work, travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or extensive experience.
  • BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage containers and CI/CD pipelines for efficient software deployment, testing, and traceable updates.
  • Configure hardware-in-the-loop setups for development, testing and commissioning.
  • Design, develop, and maintain IaC and CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments.
  • Define and own software security procedures for software, firmware and gateware.
  • Plan system downtime, backups and ensure high availability across lab systems.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineers and document configurations for projects.

Location

Infleqtion has offices in the USA, UnitedKingdomand Australia. This is a full-time position split between our Kidlington, Oxford office and the National Quantum Computing Centre, Harwell. Work from home permitted up to 2 days per week based on business needs and manager approval.Candidate will need to be able to travel independently to these locations, asrequired.

Position Summary

As part of our strategy for growth atInfleqtion UK, we are expanding our engineering team and recruitingan EmbeddedDevOpsengineer.

For this role, you will bring a mix of technical skills, problem-solvingabilityand effective communication, playing a pivotal role indevelopmentvelocityand reliabilityfor our quantum research, sensordevelopmentandproductionisationofcutting-edgesystems.

This role involves a combination ofdevelopment and maintenance of robust testing and deployment processes including hardware-in-the-loop testing andbuild pipelines for integrated software, firmware andgateware.The role will be instrumental in defining our version control, auditingand engineering procedures around delivering production software for deployed systems.Additionally, the role will involve somemaintenanceof physical on-site hardware, network management, server administrationto support our in-house research labs.The successful candidate will ideallypossessa solid technical background in both systems engineering and software development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Software Deployment:Manage containers and orchestrate CI/CD pipelines for efficient software deployment, robusttestingandtraceableupdates.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop configuration: Support both the hardware and software teams by managingconfigurations ofmultiple networked systemsbeing used for development, testing &commissioning.
  • Infrastructure as code: Design, develop, and maintainIaCsolutions and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment processes.
  • Software security:Define and own software security procedures that govern secure code developmentand deployment for software, firmware andgateware.
  • 'System-down'planning and response. Ownlab systemmanagement and coordinate response to efficientlymaintainhigh up-times. Plan and implement system backup policies to ensure swift recovery.
  • Collaboration and Documentation:Collaborate with both software developers and hardware engineers in a lab environment, documentingprocessesand system configurations for ongoing projects.
  • Embedded DevOps experience: Demonstrable experience developing andmaintainingCI/CD, build,testand release processes for systems that combine software with embedded hardware,firmwareor FPGAgateware.
  • Linux and automationexpertise: Strong Linux systems administration skills, including networking, permissions, servicemanagementand troubleshooting, together withproficiencyin automation and scripting using Python,Bashor similar languages.
  • Configuration and release management: Practical experience with Git-based development workflows, automated testing, artifactrepositoriesand versioned releases, with an understanding of how tomaintaintraceability between source code, build environments, deployedsoftwareand physical hardware configurations.
  • Infrastructure and deployment tooling: Hands-on experience with container technologies and infrastructure or configuration management tools, such as Docker,Podman, Ansible, Terraform or Nix, and the ability to apply these tools to both server infrastructure and networked laboratory systems.

Desirable

  • Experience designing or operating hardware-in-the-loop test environments and automated test rigs.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux, cross-compilation toolchains, RTOS environments or FPGA development and deployment workflows.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such asOpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana or Loki.
  • Knowledge of secure software supply-chain practices, including dependency scanning, artifact signing, software bills of materials, secrets management and vulnerability management.
  • Experience administering laboratory or industrial networks, including VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls and remote-access systems.
  • Familiarity with release, change-control or quality-management processes used for production, regulated or safety-critical systems.
  • Experience supporting on-premises servers, virtualisation platforms, backupsystemsand disaster-recovery procedures.
  • Previousexperience working closely with multidisciplinary teamscomprisingsoftware, electronics, FPGA,systemsand research engineers.

Experience

  • A minimum of4years’DevOpsexperience workingwithembeddeddevices.
  • Proven experience working with complex systems consisting ofa number ofnetworkednodes, andincluding embedded systems.
  • Experience with production grade systems.
  • Professional-level verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively share information with technical and non-technical staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or other related field, (or equivalent), or extensive experience.
  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)required(we will arrange for successful candidate).

Travel Up to 10% travel, including international travel, may be required

Working conditions and Physical Requirements Work will normally be performed in an office and laboratory environment. Able to efficiently use automated office equipment such as laptops, copiers, and printers; able to effectively engage in communications (via phone, computer, or in-person). Will involve sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 10 kg.
