Job summary

Airbus is seeking an undergraduate for a 12.5-month internship in Wing Systems Installations Stress, based at Filton in Bristol. You will contribute to stress analyses, support the Wing Engineering team, and collaborate across disciplines to meet maturity gates and manufacturing needs.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement; inform graduation date.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to deliver in a multi-cultural team.
  • Willingness to learn basic Systems Installation Engineering, solve problems, and learn new toolsets.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical outputs and coordinate tasks within the Wing Engineering team.
  • Perform stress analyses of Systems Installations using Airbus methods and tools.
  • Aim to optimise weight, cost, performance, and production requirements while ensuring safety.
  • Produce Stress Dossiers, Airworthiness outputs, and Concession justifications.
  • Suggest design or process improvements to enhance performance or reduce cost.
  • Direct or influence designers, technicians and other engineers on projects.

Wing Systems Installations Stress is proud to present an exciting opportunity to join our Filton-based team of skilled, motivated engineers, to support the vast Airbus fleet and develop the next generation of products.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to join a team that develops Systems Installation Stress across the entire Airbus commercial product range, as well as military aircraft and Research & Technology projects, working on Wing Systems including Fuel, Hydraulics, Pneumatics/Anti-Ice, Electrics and Mechanical (high-lift and flight controls). We engage with a variety of multi-National customers, stakeholders and suppliers at all stages of our products’ lifecycle.

What you will be doing:

In this role you will you will be responsible for delivering both technical outputs and coordinating tasks within the greater Wing Engineering team, including:

  • Contribute to both:
    • 'End to End' lifecycle stress support from conceptual design, modification process in support of maturity gates, Final Design and support to manufacturing sites;
    • Reactive support to Customer Services (Aircraft-on-Ground, Repairs, In-Service issues etc) and Production;
  • Execute stress analyses of Systems Installations using Airbus methods, processes, and tools;
  • Optimising in terms of weight, cost, performance, production/assembly requirements while the highest safety of the product is assured;
  • Deliver stress outputs including Stress Dossiers, Airworthiness outputs, Concession justifications, Design Review support, Trade Studies and concept investigations, and Test Support, amongst others;
  • Recommend improvements to product design or method of assembly to improve performance or reduce cost;
  • Direct or influence the work of designers, technicians, and other engineers on projects.
Requirements:

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only . Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

  • Currently working towards a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/ Aeronautical/Mechanical or strongly related Engineering;
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written) and mental agility to drive delivery of customer value and quality, as part of a multi-cultural team;
  • Willingness to learn basic Systems Installation Engineering, solve problems and pick up new toolsets (Google Workspace, Hyperworks FEM, ISAMI analysis tools, and others);
  • Discipline to deliver own tasks whilst adhering to time, cost and quality parameters;
  • Strong base in analysis topics like Strength of Structures and Materials; Statics, Dynamics and Pressure Vessels.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
