Job summary

Airbus Operations Limited invites undergraduates for a 12.5-month internship in Wing Architecture and Integration at Filton, Bristol. The role focuses on developing digital solutions across traditional wing disciplines, with exposure to data analytics, automation, and emerging tech.

You will work on digital transformation, cloud adoption, and ML algorithms while collaborating with a multinational team. The position runs hybrid with flexible hours and a generous 25-day holiday allowance.

Responsibilities

• Develop the learning journey towards Configuration management and Digital Mock up processes.
• Apply Python, Java, GScript, and C++ based automation to improve design and stress processes.
• Influence Digital Transformation within wing and airframe teams.
• Perform data analytics on Skywise, Google Studio and Airbus platforms.
• Develop machine learning algorithms on various platforms.
• Use VR/AR techniques to support design review and training.
• Support migration from server-based MS apps to cloud-based Google apps.

The Airbus Engineering Structures Wing organization is a transnational team with sites in the UK, France, and Germany. This position is primarily based in Filton, UK, where a community of over 400 engineers collaborates on the design and manufacture of wings for all Airbus commercial aircraft.

Our work covers all major aircraft programs-A220, Single Aisle, Long Range, A350, A380, and A400m-and we are also actively engaged in research and development for new aircraft configurations to enable more efficient and environmentally sustainable aviation.

What you will be doing

As a student engineer you will develop the digital solutions needed across a wide range of more traditional disciplines within the wing business. During this placement, the activities you may undertake will include:

• Develop your learning journey towards Configuration management and Digital Mock up and processes;
• Applying Python, Java, GScript, C++ based Automation in order to improve design and stress processes;
• Influence Digital Transformation within the wing and airframe organisations;
• Perform Data Analytics on Skywise, Google Studio and internal platforms developed by Airbus;
• Develop machine learning algorithms on various platforms;
• Use of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) techniques;
• Support the move from Server Based Microsoft Applications to Cloud Based Google Applications.

Requirements

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only . Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

• Studying towards a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, or equivalent;
• Positive and proactive attitude towards work;
• Good problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude and not afraid to propose new ideas;
• Programming and optimisation skills would be beneficial;
• Languages and experience of a wide range of cultures is beneficial;
• You are someone who collaborates well within a team.

Security Clearance

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
