The opportunity:

At Leonardo, we have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineering Industrial Placement to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. The CS3 line of business operates across the UK, providing support solutions to our customers, ensuring the availability of front-line capability. Our Industrial Placement Programme aims to develop future engineering or business professionals, with successful placements often leading to permanent graduate positions.

You will work alongside leading engineers, using new technology to solve customer problems, engaging with stakeholders throughout the engineering lifecycle.

There are several roles available in CS3, in areas such as:

  • Support Solution Design
  • Technical Support
  • Digital

You will have the opportunity to explore which area suits you best and participate in projects focused on innovative engineering solutions. Throughout the placement, you will receive coaching and support, with opportunities to engage in STEM activities with local schools and universities.

This role can be based at Luton or Edinburgh, with potential travel within the UK and abroad. Leonardo offers a hybrid working model, allowing a mix of on-site and remote work.

What you’ll do as a Systems Engineering Industrial Placement:

  • Use technical expertise to solve problems and generate ideas.
  • Develop skills in engineering design, development, and verification.
  • Apply academic knowledge across the engineering lifecycle to meet performance targets.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines.
  • Visualize and understand customer problems.
  • Manage customer requirements.
  • Perform data analysis, modeling, visualization, and dashboard development.
  • Complete tasks to high standards, following processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to engineering process improvements.

  • Ongoing undergraduate or postgraduate study in a relevant STEM discipline.
  • Passion for engineering and self-motivation.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Big-picture thinking and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning, prioritization, and communication skills.
