Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join Ultra Maritime SMaP (UK) in Loudwater, High Wycombe, within the Weapon Interfacing Equipment (WIE) team. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer supporting new designs and existing products.


The Systems Engineering team provides expertise throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring requirements are met and improving design effectiveness. Responsibilities include system architecture, integration, and design for cost and manufacture.


The role may also involve acting as Project Engineering Lead, Work Package Manager, or Lab Manager, supporting projects from tens of thousands to several million pounds.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop technical solutions for complex engineering problems, ensuring customer requirements are satisfied.
  2. Create Systems Engineering artefacts across the product lifecycle for successful project outcomes.
  3. Provide technical guidance and influence project approaches, architectures, and designs.
  4. Design, develop, and deliver high-quality Systems Engineering artefacts.
  5. Coordinate with system, hardware, and software teams to ensure design consistency and modularity.
  6. Lead design reviews and present findings to management and clients.
  7. Lead aspects of projects to balance requirements, schedule, and costs.
  8. Manage customer and supplier relationships to ensure compliance and project success.
  9. Generate technical proposals, estimate effort, costs, and risks for bids.
  10. Collaborate with project management to reduce costs and increase margins.
  11. Estimate and adhere to effort, cost, and schedule for systems activities.
  12. Review and approve technical documents, chair reviews.
  13. Explain complex concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  14. Ensure information security compliance.
  15. Mentor less experienced team members.
Personal Attributes and Skills
  • Degree in engineering, mathematics, or science, or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering, V-Model, and lifecycle processes.
  • Experience in developing requirements and compliant system designs.
  • Proficiency in technical documentation and reviews.
  • Experience with JAMA and embedded hardware/software/firmware development.
