Job summary

McLaren Automotive is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to design, develop and deliver high‑voltage power systems for next‑generation vehicle projects. You will own component specifications, drive supplier activities and ensure seamless integration from concept through production.

You will bring strong expertise in DC/DC converters, on‑board chargers and high‑voltage architectures, with a proven track record in automotive product delivery within OEM or Tier 1 environments.

Qualifications

• Strong technical grounding in electric drive technology and power electronics.
• Detailed understanding of DC/DC converters, on-board chargers, high-voltage topologies and safety requirements.
• Proven automotive component delivery experience within OEM or Tier 1 product development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of embedded-controller integration including CAN, LIN, diagnostics and functional safety.
• Understanding of electromagnetic compatibility and emissions in automotive environments.
• Power electronics mechanical design, packaging, and hardware integration including circuit layouts and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Define component, system and functional requirements aligned with vehicle programme objectives.
• Own the technical content of the component and supervise its design, development and integration.
• Lead supplier activities to meet timing, quality and cost targets.
• Manage engineering releases and change-control activities (ECR/ECN).
• Plan and deliver system and component validation, including simulations where required.
• Support assembly planning, build allocation and production readiness.
• Own integration and delivery of power electronics systems across vehicle projects to specification, on time and within budget.
• Prepare and present technical and programme status updates for reviews.
• Manage the power electronics BOM and deliverables per ETRS requirements.

Job description

Design, engineer and deliver power electronics components from concept through series production, ensuring all programme requirements are met for cost, timing, quality, performance, functionality and vehicle attributes. The scope includes DC/DC converters, on-board chargers and associated integrated high-voltage systems within Electric Drive Technology (EDT).

What You'll Do

• Define component, system and functional requirements in alignment with vehicle programme objectives.
• Own the technical content of the component and supervise its design, development and integration.
• Lead supplier activities to achieve delivery to the required timing, quality and cost targets.
• Manage engineering releases and associated change-control activities.
• Manage quality and development deviations, including QCRs, and drive robust resolution of concerns.
• Plan and deliver system and component validation, including simulation where required.
• Support assembly planning, build allocation and production readiness.
• Own the integration and delivery of power electronics systems across vehicle projects to specification, on time and within budget.
• Work with suppliers, Concept Engineering and Digital Mock-Up (DMU) teams to ensure components meet package, technical, quality, cost, weight and DFM targets.
• Ensure design solutions meet relevant vehicle attribute targets, including NVH, thermal performance, durability and overall system performance.
• Work with Supply Chain Management to ensure component availability for prototype, pilot, pre-production and production builds.
• Prepare and present clear technical and programme status updates for internal and external reviews.
• Own technical risk management for power electronics and support delivery of vehicle and hybrid-system attributes.
• Develop and maintain component specifications, integration requirements and technical documentation.
• Support system FMEA, system DVP and vehicle or hybrid-system-level test specifications.
• Manage design, release, ECR/ECN, development and validation plans in line with ETRS requirements.
• Manage and track the power electronics bill of materials (BOM).
• Deliver power electronics systems in accordance with the McLaren Development Process (MDP), ensuring relevant project management KPIs remain on track.

What You'll Bring

Strong technical grounding in electric drive technology and power electronics, covering design, development, validation and production delivery.

• Detailed understanding of DC/DC converters, on-board chargers, charging standards and high-voltage connection topologies, including applicable safety requirements.
• Proven automotive component delivery experience within an OEM or Tier 1 product development lifecycle.
• Competence in component specifications, DVPs, DFMEAs, engineering quality methods, design release and vehicle attribute delivery.
• Working knowledge of embedded-controller integration, including CAN, LIN, diagnostics, software, control architectures and functional safety; practical experience is desirable.
• Understanding of electromagnetic compatibility and emissions requirements, ideally gained in an automotive environment.
• Power electronics mechanical design, packaging and release capability, together with electrical or electronic hardware integration experience, including circuit layouts and schematics, is desirable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.
