AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To lead this initiative, we are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. Your responsibilities include overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services. Daily tasks involve working with technology leaders, improving operational processes, and ensuring system reliability, availability, latency, performance, and efficiency. You will also participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of regular hours.

European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which offers foundational services like S3 and EC2, along with innovative new products that set industry standards. As a member of AWS UC, you'll support the development and management of compute, database, storage, IoT, platform, and productivity services, with a focus on security solutions for AWS customers requiring specialized cloud security.
You will contribute to the operation and improvement of critical software systems, reviewing operational health, identifying anomalies, and creating bug reports to enhance system performance. You'll provide feedback on change management, address operational backlog, develop and test scripts, and share insights with service teams. The role involves 24x7 on-call duties to ensure system resilience and fault tolerance.
