Job summary

Line Up Aviation in Portsmouth is seeking a Systems Engineer on a 6-month contract to design and install TEMPEST/EMC compliant ground-based satellite equipment. The role is fully onsite at the Portsmouth site, with 37 hours per week and a GBP70 per hour Umbrella rate (IR35 in scope).

The candidate will develop system architectures, lead test plan creation and coordinate verification across the lifecycle, with SC clearance required on application.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or related field is required.
  • Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  • SC clearance required for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Identify boundary of the solution to be developed.
  • Elicit and validate requirements for TEMPEST and EMC.
  • Design architectures with IS/IT specialists.
  • Produce EMC/TEMPEST test plans.
  • Lead engagement with test houses and verification.
  • Lead modelling, analysis and interface management.
  • Oversee transition to operation and lifecycle changes.

Salary: GBP70 - GBP70 per hour

Our client has an opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join them on a contract basis for 6 months. This team is responsible for the satellite communication solutions which include ground based installations of satellite control and communication equipment such as computer server systems, network infrastructure and transmission systems. The primary focus for this role at the Portsmouth site is for the design of equipment installations which are compliant with TEMPEST and EMC standards within the ground based MilSatcom domain.

Location: Portsmouth – fully onsite

Hours: 37 per week

Hourly Rate: £70 per for via Umbrella, inside IR35

Clearance: SC required upon application. UK Eyes Only due to project

What you’ll be doing:
  • Identify boundary of the solution to be developed.
  • Elicit and validate requirements for TEMPEST and EMC whilst considering the complete system lifecycle.
  • Design and define possible architectures, in collaboration with IS/IT specialists, considering the functions and other requirements (constraints).
  • Produce EMC/TEMPEST test plans
  • Lead the engagement with test houses to fully define the approach
  • Lead modelling using appropriate systems engineering techniques.
  • Lead analysis (e.g., performance).
  • Perform trade-off analysis in order to select the best solution fulfilling the requirements.
  • Define and manage interface requirements.
  • Lead verification of the implementation and its interfaces.
  • Lead operational and in-service evaluation.
  • Lead impact analysis of any design change request during the entire product lifecycle.
  • Identify the stakeholder for the solution to be developed and capture their needs and expectations.
Requirements

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Familiarity with TEMPEST standards – preferable
  • Knowledge of TEMPEST test specifications, test procedures, test setups, test data - preferable
  • Familiarity with EMC standards – preferable
  • Knowledge of EMC test specifications, test procedures, test setups, test data - preferable
  • Customer EMC requirements analysis
  • System level EMC design, development and solutions
  • EMC Equipment selection
  • Practical experience of installation of electrical equipment, including rack installation and compliant cabling practices - essential
  • Understanding of the effects of electrical equipment (and cabling) interference, and methods for mitigating interference - essential
  • Electrical safety certification
  • Previous experience of generating test plans for sign off of electrical equipment installation, preferably with TEMPEST and/or EMC experience
  • Verification, Validation & integration
  • Transition to Operation
  • Educated to at least Degree Level or equivalent in a recognised engineering discipline as recognised by the IET.
  • The candidate should preferably hold a Chartered Engineer status and a member of the IET or other equivalent body.
