We deliver enterprise-grade, 24x7x365 technical operations to a mid-market customer base across public and private sectors. Our Slough data centre underpins this capability, hosting critical infrastructure and core services. The Systems Engineer – DC Operations will play a key role in ensuring that data centre assets are correctly built, connected, secured, and reflected in our configuration management systems. This position requires an individual with excellent attention to detail, a methodical approach, and a high level of personal accountability. You will work with confidence in live operational environments and take pride in getting things right first time. Your contribution will be central to maintaining the trust of our customers and the integrity of our service.

What You Will Do
  • Build and configure data centre server racks, including physical hardware installation, structured cabling, and power management.
  • Maintain asset records in line with ISO27001 principles and internal CMDB governance standards.
  • Ensure configuration item (CI) data is updated in real-time during moves, adds, and changes, supporting accurate and authoritative asset records.
  • Operate within approved build standards and technical design specifications, escalating deviations where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Service Asset & Configuration Management (SACM) function to ensure physical infrastructure aligns with the logical CMDB structure.
  • Participate in change control processes and scheduled patching activities.
  • Support operational resilience by proactively identifying and resolving issues within the physical environment.
  • Ensure your work area complies with safety, security, and access control policies at all times.
  • Take part in on-call or extended hours support as part of the wider 24x7 operational capability.
What You Will Have
  • Proven experience in a hands-on data centre environment, including cabinet build and structured cabling.
  • Working knowledge of IT asset lifecycle management and configuration management principles.
  • Familiarity with ISO27001 standards and their application in a technical operations context.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to follow methodical processes precisely.
  • Understanding of CMDB systems (ideally ServiceNow) and the relationship between physical and logical records.
  • Ability to work independently and take accountability for quality and accuracy.
  • Physical fitness to handle hardware installation tasks in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing demands under pressure.
  • A collaborative mindset and a natural inclination to communicate clearly and respectfully.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools to effectively manage workloads.
  • Experience using ServiceNow for asset and configuration management.
  • Exposure to enterprise-grade server, storage, and networking equipment.
  • Basic understanding of ITIL v4 principles, particularly Change and Configuration Management.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices in a technical environment.
  • Eligibility for UK Government SC Clearance.
