Job summary

AtkinsRéalis AEDC seeks a Systems Engineer to deliver solutions across defence and critical infrastructure programmes in the UK. You will work in multidisciplinary teams, applying MBSE and traditional systems engineering to manage requirements, architecture and integration.

You’ll contribute to technical reviews, risk management and programme delivery while communicating complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Hybrid working with security-enabled environments is offered.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in a STEM discipline, with CEng, CSEP or working towards professional registration.
• Experience applying systems engineering within complex engineering, defence or regulated environments.
• Understanding of systems engineering lifecycles, governance and ISO 15288.
• Experience in requirements, architecture, design, integration, verification or validation.

Working alongside highly experienced engineers and delivery professionals, you'll contribute to programmes that are vital to national security and strategic capability.This is an opportunity to develop your expertise across the full systems engineering lifecycle while working with industry-leading clients and technologies. You'll gain exposure to major programmes spanning the defence, nuclear, maritime, aerospace and Critical National Infrastructure sectors, supporting projects delivered at some of the UK's most secure and strategically important sites, including Aldermaston, Barrow-in-Furness, Faslane and Devonport.Whether you're developing requirements, building system models, supporting integration activities or helping shape future capability, you'll see firsthand how your contribution influences outcomes that matter. ## Your role * As a Systems Engineer, you'll work within multidisciplinary teams supporting the delivery of complex systems and capabilities. Depending on your experience, you'll contribute to activities such as:* Apply systems engineering principles, standards and best practice across the engineering lifecycle.* Support requirements management, ensuring traceability through design, verification and validation.* Contribute to system architecture, design and integration activities on complex programmes.* Support technical reviews, trade studies and engineering decision-making.* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.* Apply digital engineering approaches, including MBSE where appropriate, to support analysis and communication.* Contribute to project planning, risk management and programme delivery activities.* Develop knowledge of MOD acquisition processes and KiD, while communicating technical information effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders. ## About you * We're interested in talented engineers with a passion for solving complex problems.* If you don't meet every requirement but believe you can add value, we'd still love to hear from you.* Degree-qualified in a STEM discipline (or equivalent experience), with CEng, CSEP or working towards professional registration.* Experience applying systems engineering within complex engineering, defence or regulated environments.* Understanding of systems engineering lifecycles, governance and standards (e.g. ISO 15288).* Experience in requirements, architecture, design, integration, verification or validation activities.* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.* Experience using systems requirement management tools (DOORS, Dimensions RM or similar), systems modelling and architecture tools (e.g. Cameo, Sparx EA or similar).* Familiarity with modelling notations and frameworks such as SysML, UML and systems assurance approaches.* Understanding of defence acquisition, engineering governance and wider programme delivery considerations, including commercial, finance and planning. ## Rewards & benefitsExplore the rewards and benefits that help you thrive – at every stage of your life and your career.
