Job description

Job Description

At Thales UK, we research, develop, and supply technology and services that impact the lives of millions of people each day to make life better, and keep us safer. We innovate across five major industries; Aerospace, Defence, Ground Transportation, Security and Space.

Your health and well-being matters to us and that’s why we offer you the flexibility to do what’s important to you; whether that’s part time hours, job sharing, home working, or the ability to flex your start and finish times. Where possible, we support a working pattern that suits your lifestyle and helps you reach your ambitions.

An opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer within Thales OME. The role can be based in Reading or Glasgow and may require some travel and time spent at other Thales sites, customer sites, or integration and test facilities.

As a Systems Engineer, you will contribute towards the systems engineering design activities throughout the engineering project involving:

  1. Definition of Systems Requirements for the product
  2. Creation of design documentation capturing the systems engineering design
  3. Definition of the internal and external interfaces of the system
  4. Development of test procedures to support the verification of the system
  5. Carrying out integration and verification testing against test procedures
  6. Conducting activities to gather evidence that the systems requirements have been achieved

The successful candidate should be a good communicator who is proactive with:

  1. Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  2. Experience in defining systems interfaces, boundaries and external factors
  3. Knowledge of how to extract user needs and wants from a design brief
  4. Knowledge of how to ensure a system is fit for purpose in its operating environment

It would be beneficial if the candidate also has:

  1. Experience of the decomposition of a systems design to sub-system level
  2. An understanding of systems modelling techniques
  3. Experience of analysing potential solutions against the key needs in a design brief
  4. Experience of using design analysis techniques (trade-off analysis, calculations, modelling and simulation, etc.)

This role will report to the Discipline Manager for Systems Engineering.

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.

At Thales, we provide CAREERS and not only jobs. With Thales employing 80,000 employees in 68 countries, our mobility policy enables thousands of employees each year to develop their careers at home and abroad, in their existing areas of expertise or by branching out into new fields.
