The Amazon Security Platform Engineering team develops scalable self-service systems to collect security relevant logs from internal and third party systems. The scalable data collection services developed by this team provide seamless integration with internal tooling to ensure the logs collected are helping to drive security decisions protecting the business.

We are looking for a Systems Development Engineer who is excited about designing and building solutions to solve challenging problems for mission critical systems that protect Amazon and our customers' data. In Amazon Security, our challenges are broad and deep -- we build flexible, secure, scalable, high-performance, and robust tools and services. You will help implement, operate, and improve current services as well as build new features to improve the customer experience and make it easier/faster/cheaper for the customer to get what they need.

In Amazon, we obsess over our customers, and their trust is our first priority. Trust is earned by building a highly respected security service to tackle new challenges at a large scale. In this role, you will deliver high quality, scalable logging solutions to support Petabytes of data deployed around the world. You will collaborate with product owners and customers to deliver the best features, using resources and technologies efficiently. You will also help to engage other teams to onboard their services for data ingestion into the platform, aid in the tooling for analysis of the data, as well as transforming the data when needed to make it useful. You are detail-driven and have excellent problem-solving abilities. The successful candidate is passionate about delivering extensible, on-time solutions and has experience working within a high-performance team.

Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.

Key job responsibilities

The Amazon Security Platform Engineering team is seeking an innovative, high-energy, and customer-obsessed System Development Engineer to build critical security systems at scale. We value performance, simplicity, and scalability in our designs. In your day-to-day work, you will focus on the automation of complex tasks to allow our business to scale with customer demand.

1. Design, implement, test, deploy and support innovative solutions to improve service performance, durability, cost, and security.
2. Use data to measure success and take responsibility for the quality of your service and strive to prevent faults from impacting our customers.
3. Influence and partner with internal teams to successfully deliver on behalf of our customers.
4. Develop simple, repeatable processes that are well documented.
5. Learn from others and coach, hire, and develop team members to achieve their best.

This position involves on-call responsibilities. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
2. Experience (non-internship) in professional software development.
3. Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
4. Experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering.
5. Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
2. Experience utilizing AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment.
3. Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure.
4. Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes.
5. Experience building services using AWS products.
