Job summary

Viridor Limited, based in Avonmouth, is seeking a Systems Accountant to join our ARC team. The role offers hybrid working and a 37.5 hour week, acting as a bridge between Finance, Accounting and Transformation to ensure finance systems and reporting tools are reliable and used to their maximum potential.

• Strong understanding of finance systems, accounting processes and financial reporting requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills, including controlled reporting models and data transformation techniques.
• Familiarity with ERP/planning/reporting platforms, ideally D365, Anaplan and Power BI.
• AC A/ ACCA/ CIMA qualification or degree or equivalent experience is essential.

Responsibilities

• Act as the finance systems lead within the wider finance function, supporting the use, development and optimization of finance tools.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and improve finance processes, reporting and controls with stakeholders.
• Support design, testing and implementation of system changes, enhancements and integrations.
• Drive data quality and standardise reporting outputs, improving Power BI dashboards for self-service access.
• Help integrate AI-enabled tools and automation into finance activities such as journals, reconciliations and approvals.
• Maintain and improve Excel-based reporting models connected to source databases.
• Contribute to month-end close and core accounting activities, including journals and reconciliations.
• Support internal controls and document processes aligned to governance requirements.
• Provide training and guidance to finance users to improve systems capability.

We have a new opportunity for a Systems Accountant to join our team, based in Avonmouth with hybrid working, 37.5 hours per week.

The role sits within the Accounting, Reporting and Controls (ARC) team, reporting directly to the Head ofAccounting, Reporting and Control.

This role is designed to be approximately 60% finance systems focused,and 40% core accounting focused. The postholder will act as a key bridge between Finance, Accounting andTransformation teams, helping ensure core systems, reporting tools and connected Excel models are reliable,efficientand used to their maximum potential.

Working acrossa number offinance systems and toolsincludingD365, Anaplan, Power BI and finance-owned Excel reporting files that draw directly from these databases.The postholder will drive process improvement, strengthen data quality, support automation, and help integrate AI-enabled ways of working into day-to-day finance activity. The role will help keep the Finance function at the forefront of technology while continuing to contribute to month-end reporting, accounting processesincluded in thewider ARC deliverables.

The successful candidate will:

• Act as the finance systems lead withinthe wider finance function, supporting the effective use, development and optimisation ofall finance tools including but not limited to:D365, Anaplan, Power BI and finance-owned Excel reporting files connected to source system data.
• Work closely with the Transformation team, Finance Business Partners, Accounting teams and other stakeholders toidentifyopportunities to simplify, automate and improve finance processes, reporting and controls.
• Support the design, testing and implementation of system changes,enhancementsand integrations, ensuring finance requirements are clearly understood, appropriately documented and properlyvalidatedbefore deployment.
• Drive better use of data and reporting tools by improving data quality, standardising reporting outputs, enhancing Power BI dashboards and helping users access reliable, self-service information.
• Help integrate AI-enabled tools and automation into finance activities, including opportunities across journals, reconciliations, workflow approvals, variance analysis, exceptionreportingand management reporting.
• Maintain and improve key Excel-based reporting models that connect to D365, Anaplan or other source databases, ensuring theyremaincontrolled, efficient, documented and fit for purpose.
• Contribute to month-end close and core accounting activities, including journals, reconciliations, analysis, review of financial information, audit supportand support for Finance Business Partners asrequired.
• Support the internal controls environment by helping ensure system processes, access,workflowsand reporting outputs are appropriately controlled,documentedand aligned to finance governance requirements.
• Provide training,guidanceand practical support to finance users to improve systems capability, adoption of new tools and consistent ways of working across the Finance function.

The ideal candidate will have a srong understanding of finance systems, accounting processes and financial reporting requirements. You will possess a dvanced Excel skills, including controlled reporting models, Power Query or similar data transformation techniques. Working knowledge of ERP, planning and reporting platforms, ideally D365, Anaplan and Power BI is preferred.

Your skills will include srong analytical, problem-solving and process improvement. You will have the a bility to translate finance requirements into practical systems, reporting or data solutions. Using your e xcellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively between Finance, Accounting and Transformation teams. ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified or Degree qualified or equivalent experience is essential.
